Club Night
NUSwim Club Night
Club Night is an important part of a swimmer’s development. It allows them to practice the race skills they have been learning in squad training in a low-pressure environment with their Coach on hand to assist them. It also gives them a sense of community and friendship and helps them meet new friends and get to know their club mates.
What is Club Night?
Club night at NUSwim is held every fortnight* on a Friday evening during the school term, with racing beginning at 6:30PM. These races are not official races, meaning that the times that are swum cannot be used to enter external swimming meets. It also means that there are no disqualifications or infraction reports so swimmers can get in and give them all a go.
We start at 25m for our youngest swimmers, and we will have a variety of longer events available throughout the season. If your swimmer is 8 or under, they need to start in the 25M events and gain their qualification times for the longer events. Swimmers aged 9 or over can begin in the 50M events if they choose to, or start in the 25M events if they are a bit unsure. If a swimmer needs some help, we can arrange for a senior swimmer to jump in and swim with them.
What Events are There?
There will be between 3 and 5 events available each night for swimmers to choose from. Each stroke can only be swum once. For example if you choose the 50M freestyle you cannot also swim the 100M freestyle, if you choose the 100M medley you cannot swim the 200M medley.
As a swimmer improves their times and swims under the Qualifying Time for a distance, this will enable them to enter the next distance event for that stroke if they choose. We ask that swimmers swim the shorter events first so that their times are uploaded into the club night system. If a swimmer is new to our Club, and they are a Country/State level swimmer, please let us know and we can enter seed times for them to allow them to swim the longer events.
If you have questions about Club Night’s at NUSwim you can email our Club Night team – clubnight@nuswim.com.au.
*At times Club night will be adjusted where it conflicts with Swimming NSW events such as NSW Country Championships and NSW State Championships. Please refer to TeamApp for specific dates and races.
Club Night Volunteers
Our Club could not function without the wonderful help of parents and caregivers of our swimmers. These hard working volunteers donate their valuable time to help make NUSwim a happy, friendly and family oriented club. We are always looking for volunteers, the roles can be many and varied and no experience is necessary as there is always someone willing to show you the ropes.
Volunteering is a condition of club sponsorship and eligibility for child participation in certain events and awards.
Below is a small list of our most important volunteer positions. If you are unsure how you can help please just ask a committee member, there is always some way you can assist and every little bit helps:
- BBQ: this is important as it raises funds for the club. Assistance is needed in setting up, cooking and serving and cleaning up.
- Pool deck: Timekeeping, marshalling, check-starter, starter, setting up and packing up.
Those wishing to become technical officials can receive training and accreditation through our Club.
The more volunteers that help us run Club night mean a greater experience for all.
